Shooting

We had the opportunity to join with Fillongley to have a go at some air rifle shooting.  Brilliantly organised and many thanks to them for running this.  The Scouts really enjoyed it and so did the leaders.

Bonfire Night

We joined with Beavers and Cubs for this one.

Apple bobbing (or dooking as it is called in Scotland apparently!), sweets hidden in piles of flour and doughnuts suspended on strings gave us a messy but fun start to the evening.
Then there was a bonfire and singing and then a couple more games towards the end of the evening, oh and hot dogs of course.  Much fun on a cold but dry night.

Thanks to the residents who live around the scout hut for the firework displays that popped up from time to time as we sang.  Saved us a pile of money and risk assessments :~)

Also thanks to the various leaders and parents who helped in the kitchen, and to Tom's Butchery in Meriden for the lovely pork sausages which tasted great.

Driving us up the wall!

The climbing wall is always a popular evening.  This year 3 more scouts invested while clinging to the wall one handed while making the Scout sign and making their promise.

Thanks to Mr Y for the photos.

Fire lighting, or making a pile of sticks and showing it a match!

Well, 2 weeks ago we had a camp and everyone that was there made a lit a fire with a maximum of 2 matches.  Last night we did the same again at Scouts.  Total fires lit last night, ZERO!

Lessons learnt?  Well, when it is warm and sheltered and you have lots of time and concentrate it is easy.  When it is cold, a little windy and you don't do it properly, not so easy.  And when would it be more important to be able to make a fire?  When it is cold and windy!  Better get some practice in.

Oh well, everyone (that remembered to bring a coat) had fun trying and we played plenty of games to warm everyone up afterwards.

Rough Close Camp

Sorry for the delay, but here are a few photos of the camp at Rough Close with Cubs and Scouts. We had a 5 mile hike on Saturday with a bit of treasure hunt and questions thrown in, then we made bivouacs and had a sing song around the camp fire.  On Sunday there were para-cord bracelets, whittling and fire lighting.
