Fire Lighting

Things are getting better.  Last time we did this the number of fires lit was a dismal Nil.  Sad Face.

This time, working in pairs and with marshmallows to toast as an incentive, all fires were lit, many with no intervention from us.

First to light the fire and first to earn their marshmallows.

Operation Bald Eagle Camp

October 9th saw 12 Scouts travel to the Rhydd Covert Scout Camp Site for an activity packed weekend.  3 teams of 4 scouts from Meriden competed with 46 other teams.

Starting with a getting to know you activity on the Friday evening there were then 30 activities to complete on the Saturday.

Then the main event.  Starting just as night fell on Saturday evening there were 14 bases around the camp site needing the Scouts to navigate in the dark to each base, complete a challenge and then move on to the next base.

Needing a combination of team work, communication and individual ability, as well as a determination to overcome some tiredness, the bases were really well designed to use a wide range of skills.

This was the first time we had taken part in this camp and we were really impressed with the Scouts. Overall, this is a combination of the Friday, Saturday day bases and the Night Hike challenges,
"Herraty United" came 15th
"Lockered & Loaded" came 21st
"All Cashed In" came 22nd

There were also certificates given out for the best team on each of the night bases, and we won one!
"Herraty United" came first on the Illumination base.  Fantastic work.  Really well done to the team.

Ready Steady Cook

Scouts get to choose from a pile of ingredients and cook 2 courses.  It was all quite nice really.  I'm not sure why I am surprised.
Timing is still an issue.  You have 50 minutes... GO!
Within 5 minutes the water is boiling and the rice is in the pan.

End of term games

It was raining, but as there was so much water being thrown around no one seemed to notice!

The Scouts are great sports, a great game of Egg Roulette with no one wimping out.  Then catch with water balloons and more eggs.

The leaders were also soaked, and one egged, much to the Scouts delight.

At the end of the evening 2 (slightly wet and soggy) Scouts were invested, by a very wet and soggy leader.

Have a great summer everyone.  Check back here for the program for next year, coming soon.

Splat of the night from the birthday girl!

The 'winners' from each patrol got to go again in the grand final.
Lucky them!

Loving all the hair towels in the background.
